This Sunday (June 15, 2008), will be the premiere of Episode 4 of "Playing for Peanuts." The episode is called, "Comings and Goings." Check out the preview:
In this episode, one of the Peanuts gets signed by the Milwaukee Brewers, the Peanuts try to kill time during a rain delay at a stadium with no clubhouse and manager Wally Backman gets tossed for defending one of his players.
My thoughts on Episode 4: This is where the story really begins. The Jared Sutton signing definitely set a tone for the rest of the season. After that day, every player knew that Wally Backman was capable of getting them signed by an MLB affiliate and it definitely kept guys motivated. This episode features some important profiles of outfielders Jon Zeringue and Jasha Balcom. The profiles are very important to understanding the mental makeup and motivations of the team. Finally, Wally Backman gets ejected from a game and it sets of a series of events that ended up getting covered by Deadspin, SI.com, ESPN.com and several other national sources.
As for Wally Backman's ejection... I am working on a few new features for the blog that will explain what can and can't be said to umpires.
